William A. Stockfield III, age 80 of Wesley Chapel, FL, formerly of Arkport and Hornell, passed away suddenly June 3, 2018. William was born in Pittsburgh, PA and grew up in Medina, NY, graduating from Medina High School in 1956. His first degree was in electrical engineering from RIT, but that was not where his heart was. He fell in love with impacting the lives of young people while being a Ranger Camp counselor during summer breaks in college. It was during one of the 8-week long summer trips where he met his future wife, Arlyce, the camp cook. William earned a second degree from SUNY Brockport, and soon found himself teaching at Canaseraga Central School. He taught 5th and 6th grade, and later K-12 computers and high school math. He was well-travelled having visited 49 US states and Canada many times over. He enjoyed the great outdoors, and especially enjoyed meandering the waterways in canoes and kayaks. He didn't slow down as he aged, earning his pilot's license at age 75 and logging more than 550 hours flying his trike. He was preceded in death by Arlyce, his wife of 40 years. Survivors include his daughter Alison Stockfield, her husband Daniel Grossman, and grandchildren Eliana and Makayla. Burial took place at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery in Gainesville, FL. Memorial contributions may be made to Canaseraga Central School. Condolences may be expressed online at segalfuneralhome.com.
