Walter Leib

Walter Leib, age 93 of Tampa, died Sunday December 6, 2009. Walter was born and raised in Ybor City. At an early age he and his brother Lester went to work for his father Manuel at Sunshine Department Store. He was in the Navy for four years in the Cayman Islands and then went back into the family business. He was a member of the Ybor City Chamber of Commerce, Merry Fellows Club, Masons, and Shriners. After retiring in 1976, he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the world. The Leibovitz' are one of the founding families of Rodeph Sholom Synagogue. Walter is survived by his wife and soul mate Lorraine Davis Leib; daughters Sherry Leib and Gail Leib Polster; granddaughters Jamie and Liza Polster; sister Paulyne Fleischman; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday December 7, 2009 at Rodeph Sholom Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Rodeph Sholom or LifePath Hospice.
