Theodore Stuart Millison, 45, of Tampa, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 after a two and one-half year battle with melanoma. He was the founding partner of the law firm Millison & Millison, P.A. (currently Carey & Millison, P.A.), along with his wife, Gayle S. Millison, in 1994. He is survived by his wife of eighteen years, Gayle S. Millison; son Harris Millison; daughters Marina and Noa Millison; brother James H. Millison (wife Jill, nephew Jacob and niece Rachel Millison), brother Robert D. Millison (wife Tracey), all of Maryland; brother-in-law David Evan Sobelman (wife Tanner Gilreath Sobelman and niece Joan Mabry Sobelman) of Tampa, FL; and mother-in-law Goldie Lang of Delray Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Edward Millison, his mother, Anita Betty Millison, and sister-in-law, Dayna Lynne Sobelman, of blessed memory. He served on the Executive Council of the Family Law Section of the Hillsborough County Bar Association; was a member of the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar; served on the Grievance Committee for several years and as the Committee Chair in 2003; was a Master in the prestigious Family Law Inns of Court of Tampa; was an active leader in community services, including serving as President of the Board of the Hillel School of Tampa 2003 - 2005, participating on the Board of Directors of the Hillel School of Tampa from 1999 - 2006; serving on the Community Board of the Tampa JCC/Federation 2003 - 2005; and was an active member of Congregation Kol Ami, most recently serving on its search committee to retain new rabbinic leadership. In November, 2008, Mr. Millison was honored by his colleagues of the Family Law Inns of Court with the naming of the "Ted Millison Professionalism Award." A plaque was unveiled at a courthouse ceremony in the presence of members of the Bar and judiciary as well as Mr. Millison's wife, their three children and other extended family members. In May, 2009, the Family Law Inns of Court voted Mr. Millison as the 2009 recipient of this most prestigious award. The plaque is currently displayed on the fourth floor of the Hillsborough County Court House to inspire others to emulate Mr. Millison's professionalism and dedication to the practice of family law. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Congregation Kol Ami, 3919 Moran Road, Tampa with interment following at Gan Shalom Cemetery, Tampa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to LifePath/Hospice c/o Blue Team, 11150 N. 53rd Street, Temple Terrace, FL 33617 or a charity of the donor's choice.
