Dade City

Steven Haberland, a devoted family man, was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident on June 4, 2024. Steve was born on April 30, 1974 in upstate NY to Marvin and Patricia Haberland. He grew up in Palmyra, NY with his parents and sister Tammy.

Following the lead of his father, Steve joined the Palmyra Volunteer Fire Department at the age of 18. He volunteered there for several years before moving to Florida in 1998. There, he decided to make a career of fire service. He attended the Fire Academy at Pasco-Hernando State College where he was awarded the title of "Best in Class." Steve spent two years as a firefighter/paramedic at Zephyrhills Fire Department and then moved to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue for the remainder of his career.

In 2023, Steve also started working as an ER Technician for BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel. In December of that year, he was chosen to be their Team Member of the Month due to his "unwavering dedication to patient care, quick thinking in high-pressure situations, and exceptional medical skills." Steve's chosen professions highlight his core values of hard work, strength, commitment, bravery, respect for life, and service to others.

Steve had a very strong work ethic and desire to advance in his career, sometimes working up to three jobs at once and also attending classes to pursue a degree in nursing. As busy as he was, he always found time for his family, attending every theater production, game, and activity. He was a Scout leader with his son's troop and really enjoyed going camping with the Scouts and teaching the kids about such things as first-aid and edible plants.

Those who knew Steve will remember him as a loving, devoted, and self-sacrificing father and husband. His family was his whole world, and he dedicated his life to making sure they were protected, provided for, and loved. He will be greatly missed by his wife Nicki, daughters Jessica and Cassidy, and son Tristan, as well as his mom Patricia, sister Tammy, and all those whose lives he touched.

Steve's life was one of purpose, passion, unwavering devotion, and selfless love. He has left an indelible mark on our hearts and lives. Though his work is done, his spirit and the example he set will continue to live on in his children.

Rest easy Steve, we'll take it from here.
