SOLOMON, Shirley, 98, of Tampa, died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 23, 2015 ending a long life well lived. Mrs. Solomon was born August 5, 1917 in New York City. She was an exceptional student, graduating from New York University at the age of twenty and receiving a Master's degree from Columbia University a year later. Shirley came to Tampa with her late husband Samuel and their two children in 1959. She was a member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom and was an active supporter of many charities including WEDU, the Florida Orchestra, the Performing Arts Center, Tampa Jewish Family Services, Boys and Girls Clubs, Jewish National Fund and the Lowry Park Zoo. She also volunteered as a Guardian Ad Litem. She was an avid and accomplished duplicate bridge player becoming a Silver Life Master. She was also a world traveler. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Maxine Solomon; and her daughter and son-in-law Emily and Jay Farrell; grandchildren Dr. Marcy Baker (James) and Andrew Solomon (Victoria); great granddaughters Samantha Baker and Rachel, Eleanor, Sophia and Gabrielle Solomon. Funeral services will take place at Congregation Rodeph Sholom, 2713 Bayshore Blvd, on Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. Rabbi Joshua Hearshen will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish National Fund or a charity of your choice.
