Shirley Kanas Polonsky, age 87, passed away on Wednesday January 11th after a long hard battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Shirley was born in Philadelphia and was part of a very close strong Jewish family where all of the aunts, uncles, and cousins were not just family but friends. She met her soul mate, Nelson, when she was just 14. They married young and raised 3 children; Aaron, Robert, and JoAnne in Philadelphia, moved to Cleveland, and then back to the Philadelphia area. Much of their 64 years of marriage (until his death 8 years ago) they were in business together first at Silver Pharmacy and then in Harbour View Photo and Video in Cape May, NJ. She was very active in her synagogues; Beth Judah in Wildwood and then at Beth El in Ventnor, NJ as well as in Hadassah where she was a life member. She was also an avid Mah Jongg player with her friends and in local tournaments both in New Jersey and when she moved to Tampa in 2013. Shirley was a very proud grandmother to Jason, Joshua, Benjamin, Rafie, and Danielle. She was also a Great Grandmother to Autum, Fletcher, and Nathan. To many (family and non-family) she was known as “Bubbe” a name she was very proud of. She will be missed by her many friends and family but they all know that she is no longer suffering and is back with her beloved husband holding hands and walking on the beach. We all love you Bubbe.
