Sheila Armus Fishman was born on February 3, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the first child of Reuben and Betty Armus z”l and granddaughter of Rose and Sander Goloskov z”l. Her sister Ellen was born seven years later. In her family, Sheila learned how important it was to love and be loved by G!d and to love and be loved by other people. She enacted these values every day of her life.
Sheila married Errol Fishman in Baltimore in 1970. Together they built a life of meaning, service, and joy for themselves, their children, and their family and friends. Sheila worked at the United States Social Security Administration for forty-one years. After her first retirement she worked for eight years for Disability Experts in Florida. She was always an active member of the community. While her children were in school, she served as the president of the PTA. She was active in the Jewish community in Baltimore and the greater Tampa area where she and Errol were members of Congregation Beth Shalom for twenty-five years. Sheila served as congregational president of CBS and in many other leadership roles.
Sheila died after a brief illness on February 26, 2025. She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Errol Fishman, and their devoted canine companion, Hamilton. Sheila is also survived by her dear sister, Ellen (Tom) Creegan, and Errol’s twin sister (Sheila’s beloved sister-in-law) Sheila Greenberg; her two children, Larry Fishman and his wife Shelley Cotter, Erin Braverman and her partner Brandon Watring; their five grandchildren Amanda Smith (Rob Roysdon), Jonathan Fishman, Ashley McLaughlin (David), and Sydney (Rubah) and Emily (Mario) Braverman; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Mariah Braverman. Sheila was always surrounded by a community of friends, all of whom will remember her love and kindness.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 3 at 3 p.m. at Hillsboro Memorial Gardens, 2323 W Brandon Blvd in Brandon, Florida. Shiva will be observed at after the graveside service on Monday at 5910 Palmettoside, Lithia, Florida until 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 4 and Wednesday, March 5 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Lustgarten Pancreatic Cancer Research or a charity of the donors choosing.
Sheila’s greatest wish was to be remembered for what she did for her family and for other people and for people to do acts of kindness and generosity in her memory.
