Seymour Block

BLOCK, Seymour (Sy) David, 88 born March 9th, 1924 in New York, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2012 at home. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Barbara Block; three children, Dr. Jeffrey (Michelle), Stephen (Suzanne),Karen (Marc) Blumenthal; and eight wonderful grandchildren. Son of Julius and Helen (Rudin) Block, "Sy" grew up in Brooklyn, NY, served his country in WWII, and married the love of his life, Barbara ("Bobbie") in 1954. Together, they raised their family in Roslyn, NY while Sy developed Family Associates, a successful department store business. His family moved to Miami, Florida in 1970 and to Tampa in 1992 where Sy became affectionately known as "Papa". They moved to St. Pete in 2003. Sy's golden years were truly blessed with a loving family and vigorous health. Sy loved the outdoors, especially playing tennis, and maintained a FL State ranking into his 80's. He and "Nana Bobbie" traveled often and participated in over 40 elder hostel vacations. Being with his grandchildren was a source of great joy. Sy will be best remembered for enjoying family, reciting original poems, singing and bringing love, laughter and smiles to those who knew him. A Memorial Service in celebration of Sy's life will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 5pm at Congregation Schaarai Zedek, Tampa. In Lieu of flowers donations in Sy's memory may be made to Congregation Schaarai Zedek and/or the Suncoast Hospice Orange Team.
