Saundra Maria Berrymon (Lopez) Alvarez born on October 11, 1944 in Chester, PA, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2017 in Tampa, FL. Born and raised in the city of Chester, she attended Chester public schools. Saundra and her older brother Gerald were raised by their aunts after their Mother’s untimely death in 1950. Saundra was known to have an excellent singing voice, which she had inherited from her Father’s side of the family. Everyone in Chester and the surrounding areas knew about the singing Lopez family. Dubbed “Chester’s Song Bird” by one of the local radio stations after her breakout hit records “I Won’t Tell A Soul “, “One Little Tear”, “Look What You’ve Done” and “I’m So Lonely”  Saundra composed, sang, performed and released several recordings with RCA Victor Records(currently Arista) and Phila of Soul Record Label in the early to late 1960’s. She was also well known to be an exceptional cook. She briefly owned and operated a local restaurant named Sandy’s Blue Note Luncheon in Chester, PA. Predeceased by her Mother Elizabeth Berrymon and her Father Perfecto Lopez both of Chester, PA. She is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Manuel Alvarez of Tampa, FL, a daughter Paulita R. Payne (James) of Ridley Park, PA, a brother Gerald Perfecto Berrymon (Sadie) of Decatur, GA, two granddaughters Javette L. Stone (Lance) of Brookhaven PA, Javonne L. Payne of Upland, PA, six great grandsons Lance, Sean, Ryan, Shane, Damian and Bryson Stone all of Brookhaven, PA, a niece Michelle Strickland of Decatur, GA, a nephew Brucie Berrymon (Joesette) of Sharon Hill, PA, a special cousin, whom she loved like a sister Arva Adams of Chester, PA, and two special aunts, Anne B. Everett, whom helped to raise her and Thelma (Dolly) Davis both of Chester, PA. Plus many more aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Memorial services will be held for Mrs. Alvarez at the Segal Funeral Home 3909 Henderson Boulevard, Tampa FL 33629 on May 20, 2017 at 12:00pm.
