Ruth Mamolen Striar

Striar, Ruth Mamolen, 87, of Bangor, Maine and Jupiter, Florida passed away on August 7, 2022.  She was born on February 24, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA to Daniel and Marcia (Shuwall) Mamolen.  Ruth attended Penn State and received her undergraduate degree.   She later obtained a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Maine.  In the summer of 1955 she moved to Bangor, Maine and married Philip Gotlib.  She started a family and had three children. She taught elementary school at both Larkin Street and Fairmount schools for approximately 25 years before retiring. After her children were grown, Ruth and Philip divorced.  While still living in Bangor, Ruth met the love of her life, Max Gordon Striar, and they were married in 1984.   Ruth and Max spent  the short, but happy years they had together in Boca Raton in the winter, and returning home to Bangor for the summer months.  After the passing of her husband, Max, in 1990, Ruth moved to Jupiter, Florida.  While in Jupiter, she volunteered at Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary. She also continued to take lessons and play the piano.  She was very active with her friends in water aerobics.  Her favorite pastimes included spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Whether that was visits to her home in Jupiter, eating at the Palm Beach Grill (her favorite) attending plays at the Kravis Center or shopping.  Ruth also loved to travel and was  an avid bridge player.  She will be missed by many family and friends.  Ruth is survived by her three children, Louis (Sandra) Gotlib, Marcia Champion, and Debra (Johnathan Gordon) Gotlib.  She is also survived by her granddaughters, Sophia Gotlib and Samantha Champion and her sisters, Joan Kates and Fran Klass.
