Verkauf, Rose Freeman

Rose Verkauf passed away on January 15, 2013 at The Grand Court of Tampa, Florida at the age of 100 years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Oscar Verkauf, sisters, Raye Freeman, Sara Moore and brother, Samuel Freeman. Rose also had lost her adored sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ida Freeman, Sam Verkauf, Abe Verkauf and Jean V. Bennett. Recently, Stefanie Verkauf, her eldest granddaughter passed away in Miami, Florida.

Rose was born in Tampa and was educated in Tampa schools. Until marriage, she worked at O'Falks department store. In addition to being a stay at home Mother she worked with her husband at Brownies Men's Clothing store. She was active in local PTA's and the Sisterhood of her cherished Congregation Rodeph Sholom Synagogue.

Rose is survived by her daughter Elinor Turkel (Dr. Robert), son, Dr. Barry S. Verkauf (Arline) granddaughters, Katie Rosenfeld (Douglas), Julie Abrahamson (Antony), Leslie Cohen (Danny), grandson-in-law, Michael Costello, sister-in-law and loving friend, Doris Verkauf, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who were so attentive to her.

A special thanks to her caretakers at The Grand Court and especially Barbara Martin and Yolanda Doster, her companions for the past 6 years without whom her last years would not have been as happy.

A funeral service will take place at Rodeph Sholom Synogogue on Friday, January 18, 1:30 PM with a private burial service for family only at Rodeph Sholom Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Rodeph Sholom.
