Dr. Rachel Sara Permuth, age 47, of Gaithersburg, Maryland passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, May 29, 2022 in Tampa, Florida after nearly a 2.5 year battle with metastatic colorectal cancer. Rachel was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin and lived in Peoria, Illinois, Louisville, Kentucky, Cleveland, Ohio, Tampa, and in the Rockville/Gaithersburg, Maryland area. She held two Bachelor of Arts degrees (in Mathematics and Psychology) from Bradley University, a Master of Science degree in Public Health from the University of South Florida, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Public and Community Health from the University of Maryland. Throughout her aggressive treatments she never gave in. Even while battling cancer, Rachel managed to start her own successful business venture as the Chief Executive Officer of Epidemiology and Behavioral Sciences Consultants, LLC. Rachel's family, friends, and colleagues have continuously admired her compassion, perseverance, and determination to help others, and her legacy will live on through the countless individuals that she inspired and the lives that she has touched.
Survivors include her son, Nathaniel (Nate) Levine of Gaithersburg, her parents, Dr. Steven and Jacki Permuth, her sister, Dr. Jennifer Permuth, her brother and sister-in-law, Matthew and Sabrina Permuth, her nephews Joseph and Jacob Wey and Robert Cochran, her nieces, Sydney and Gabriella Permuth, all of Tampa, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. A private graveside ceremony will be held later this week. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to support colorectal cancer research in Rachel’s memory at Moffitt Cancer Center (Tampa) by visiting Moffitt.org/RachelPermuth.
