Rabbi Mordecai Levy, age 82 of Tampa, died Thursday, May 12, 2011. Rabbi Levy was born in Malden, MA and came to Tampa in 1986 from Lakeland. He was a Rabbi for over 50 years, presently serving Congregation Ohev Shalom in New Tampa and served as Jewish Chaplain to the James A. Haley VA Hospital. Rabbi Levy was a member, past board member and a dedicated scholastic resource to Congregation Kol Ami. He pursued learning at many levels having achieved numerous post graduate degrees including his PhD from Dropsie University in Philadelphia, PA. Rabbi Levy was also a veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 55 years, Rana Levy; sons and daughter-in-law Baruch Levy, of Dunedin, FL, Ramni Levy, of San Francisco, CA and Eytan and Sharon Brown-Levy of West Orange, NJ; grandchildren Gideon, Batya, Aviva and Mattan; and brother Stanley Levy of Delray Beach, FL.
Funeral Services will take place Sunday, May 15, 2011, 2:00p.m. at Congregation Kol Ami, 3919 Moran Rd., Tampa. Interment will follow in Gan Shalom Cemetery, Tampa. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Congregation Kol Ami or to the charity of ones choice.
