Naomi Motley Stern Jaffer, born July 1, 1930 in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii to parents Benjamin Stern and Elizabeth (Bess) Stock Stern, died December 15, 2009. Mrs. Jaffer was a honorary member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom. She was active with voter registration and helped establish a summer job program for school children. Graduated in 1951 with a B.S. in journalism, a joint degree from Douglass College, a part of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Jaffer and daughter, Laurel G. Jaffer. Survivors include her son, David G. Jaffer (Cathy) of Sarasota, two grandchildren, Alexis & Rebecca; a sister, Louise H. Stern of Des Moines, Iowa and many loving friends for over 50 years, Betty Ruth Hollander, Stamford, CT., and Irene Rubenstein of Tampa. Additionally, Mr. Douglas B. Stalley who's support, professionalism and understanding enabled her to have the best medical care which extended her life and Sr. Mary Gregoria Rush, OSF, who's kindness and compassion lessened the pain of her many serious illnesses. They too became family friends. Graveside services will be held Friday, 10:30 AM at Rodeph Sholom Cemetery with Rabbi Marc Sack officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Menorah Manor in St. Petersburg or to the charity of ones choice.
