Miriam (Brevda) Zack, 87, of Tampa, passed away in her home on January 20 th , 2025. Born in 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, she moved to St. Petersburg as a young child, and then on to Tampa where she lived for more than seventy years. She was the loving mother to Joel Zack (New York, NY) and Michael Zack (Burbank, CA), a loving mother-in-law to Marla Zack (Burbank, CA) and a loving grandmother to Sullivan Zack (Burbank, CA). She also loved her sister-in-law Barbara Zack and her niece Deb Zack. She took great pride in her family. A graduate of H.B. Plant High School and the University of South Carolina, she later earned her Master’s of Library Science specializing in medical librarianship at USF. She was an active member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom her entire adult life and served on its Caring Committee. She taught adult Hebrew at Rodeph Sholom and co- taught a class on Israel at Continuing Education at USF. She was a lifelong member of Hadassah and other organizations. She supported many philanthropic causes throughout her life. A fervent believer in education, Miriam was one of the founders of the Hillel School (now Hillel Academy) in Tampa and was involved in the development of its first curriculum. She taught biology at  Hillsborough High School and was a volunteer for Great Books at Ballast Point Elementary School and Hillel School. She was a media specialist at Robinson High and at Hillel Academy. Miriam loved the arts deeply and was an excellent watercolorist. She also enjoyed the theater and art films, and never grew tired of rewatching classic old movies. Throughout her life, she was passionate in her beliefs and a valued friend and neighbor. A small graveside service for immediate family was held in January. There will be a Celebration of Life for Miriam sometime in the spring. Please return to this website in April for more information, or contact Segal Funeral Home.
