SEIGEL, Michael, age 55 of Tampa died Thursday, January 1, 2015. Mr. Seigel was born in Philadelphia, PA and came to Tampa in 1995. He was the Samuel Dell Term Professor Law and Director of the Criminal Justice Center at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. His expertise included Evidence, Criminal Law and White Collar Crime. Michael graduated college from Princeton University in 1981 and received his JD from Harvard Law School in 1984. He clerked for Judge Edward Becker of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia, after which he served as a federal prosecutor for the Organized Crime Strike Force in Philadelphia . After moving to Florida in 1990 and beginning a career as a law professor at the UF College of Law, he served a 5 year term as the First Assistant US Attorney from 1995-99. Mike has authored 3 legal books and 1 novel in addition to numerous scholarly papers. Survivors include his beloved wife of 29 years, Dr. Sharon Dabrow, daughters, Nicole Seigel and Jessica Seigel, his parents, Howard & Bernice Seigel and sister, Michele Fein. Mike was a member of Congregation Kol Ami for 25 years. His hobbies include politics, theater, classical music, college and pro football, visiting flea markets, eating steak, travel and PBS mysteries. Mike courageously battled lymphoma cancer for 2.5 years. Funeral services will be held Sunday, 11:00 AM at Congregation Kol Ami, 3919 Moran Road, Tampa. Interment will follow at Gan Shalom Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Michael L Seigel Criminal Justice Fellowship Fund.
