Merna Evenson

Merna Evenson, born May 14, 1939, Died November 15, 2009 Born Merna Scaratowsky in Newark, NJ, daughter of Abe and Ida, little sister to Jarrett. Merna attended Weequahic HS in Newark, graduated with a fine arts degree from Newark State College, and became an elementary school art teacher. In 1962 she married Rolfe Evenson and moved to Verona, NJ where they raised two children, Tara and Fred. In 1979 the family moved to Tampa, Fl where Merna worked for 20 years as office manager of a non - profit social services organization. Merna enjoyed spending time with family and friends, she loved laughing, traveling, napping with her cats, cooking, play reading, knitting, playing mahjong and cards, and antiquing. Throughout Merna's life, summers were never complete without time spent at the Jersey Shore. She passed her love of the beach on to her children and grandchildren Alex, Isaac, Bella and Simone. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Moffitt Cancer Foundation, Lifepath Hospice of Tampa, or Congregation Rodeph Shalom in Tampa. Funeral Services will take place Tuesday November 17, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton, New Jersey with interment to follow at King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton.
