It is with profound sadness that the family of Martin (Marty) Rothbard announces his peaceful passing on March 12, 2024, in The Villages, FL. Born on August 22, 1935, in the Bronx, NY, Marty lived a full life moving from New York to New Jersey, Switzerland and finally Florida.
Marty was a devoted husband to his late wife, Eleanor (Elly), and a loving father to his daughters, Janice Obeido and Michelle Blumenthal, and their husbands, Hassan and Robert. He was predeceased by his parents, Irving and Gussi Rothbard, his sister Rhoda, and his beloved Elly. His first cousins, Roz and Audrey, and many friends and relatives will fondly carry his memory forward.
After serving as a Radio Operator in the Army, Marty earned his Bachelor’s degree and worked for most of his career as an accountant for international pharmaceutical companies.
An avid tennis player, Marty continued to play the sport he loved until the age of 87. His passion for games of strategy was unmistakable, as he was both a keen bridge player and a recent student of chess. Not one to rest on his laurels, after giving up tennis, Marty embarked on the challenge of swim lessons.
Marty's life was one of connection and enduring friendships. His time spent living in Switzerland from 1979 to 1982 blessed him with relationships that would last a lifetime.
In his final two years, Marty was fortunate to find love and companionship with May Dhal, who provided him with happiness and a renewed zest for life.
In his passing, Marty leaves behind a world that was undeniably brighter for his presence. He will be deeply missed by those whose lives he enriched.
