Mark Svonkin

Mark Josef Svonkin, 76, of Winchester, CT, died in Tampa, Florida on January 19, 2016. Mr. Svonkin was born on May 14, 1939, in Danbury, Connecticut, the son of Louis Svonkin and Helen (Wolff) Svonkin. He graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1961 and University of Connecticut School of Law in 1968, and served as an officer in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed a long career as a commercial real estate attorney in Connecticut, and served as Trustee Emeritus of The Gilbert School in Winsted, Connecticut. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Sheila (Garbus) Svonkin; his children, Stuart Svonkin and Sandra Shime of Toronto, Ontario, Michele Svonkin and Dominick Freda of Bethesda, Maryland, and David and Christina Gilden of Tampa, Florida; his grandchildren, Carolyn and Benjamin Svonkin, Nathaniel, Rebecca, and Jacob Freda, and Mason and Alexandra Gilden; his brother Alan and Lynda Svonkin of Delray Beach, Florida; and sister, Hedda and David Kenton of Rockville, Maryland. Graveside Services will be held at Schaarai Zedek Cemetery , Tampa, Florida on Thursday, January 21 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gilbert School.
