Mark M. Shine, age 93, lifelong resident of Tampa died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at his home. Mr. Shine attended Gorrie Elementary, Wilson Middle and Plant High Schools and was a 1938 graduate of the University of Tampa. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard having served during WWII and was a retail merchant. After closing his families business, Palace Jewelry in 1959, he opened Kirby's Men Wear which continues to be a fixture in South Tampa. He was a director of the Merchants Association of Florida, a charter member of the Committee of 100, charter member of the Ybor City Rotary Club, and recent member of the Rotary Club of Tampa, past president of Tampa Jewish Family Services and was a member and served on the board of Congregation Schaarai Zedek. Survivors include his beloved of wife of 65 years wife, Audrey, sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen & Susan Shine and Martin Shine, daughter and son-in-law, Barbara & Buck Hicks, daughter-in-law, Charlsie Blue Shine and grandchildren, Taylor Shine, David Hicks and Allison McCandler. The family extends their sincere thanks to Mark's wonderful caregivers, Nolan Avery, Victoria Primus, Corean Hardley and Vera Carter. A memorial service will be held Sunday, 5:30 PM at Congregation Schaarai Zedek, 3303 West Swann Avenue, Tampa. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Schaarai Zedek, the University of Tampa or Rotary International, one Rotary Center. 1560 Sherman Avenue, Evanston, IL. 60201.
