Leonard Plotkin, 60, died October 20, 2010, in Tampa, Florida after an extended illness. Mr. Plotkin was born on October 14, 1950, in Savannah Georgia, the son of Jacob and Selethel Plotkin, and the older of their two children. He attended the University of Georgia and graduated with a degree in chemistry. After graduation he worked as a chemist for the State of Georgia Environmental Division. The Plotkin family moved to Tampa, Florida in 1987. He was an active member of Congregation Kol Ami, including serving as Men's Club President. One of Leonard's special interests was trying to improve life for the disabled and needy. For many years he was an active member of the Committee to Improve the Transportation Needs for the Disabled. For his dedication and many hours of service, Leonard, was recognized this year as Volunteer of the Year by the Citizens with Disabilities. Leonard dedicated his life to his greatest love, his family. He was surrounded by an incredible and loving extended family. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathy Gorman Plotkin, and two children Richard Plotkin of Tampa, Florida and Becky Latorre and her husband Xavier of Tampa, Florida and two grandchildren, London and Winter Latorre of Tampa. Leonard is survived by his brother, Jim Plotkin, of Tampa, Florida. Graveside services will be at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah Georgia at one o'clock Friday October 22, 2010. Shivah will be in Tampa with family.
