Marcia Warford Cohen died July 15, 2009, surrounded by her loving children and family. Born and raised in North Carolina, she moved to Tampa where she eventually married and raised her family. She spent her life involved with community, social service, charity and philanthropy, including founding the Hillel School of Tampa and Jewish Family Social Service of Tampa. In recent years she moved to Savannah, Georgia, where she enjoyed a career, volunteer work, and being centrally located to all of her children.
Marcia was deeply devoted to her children and grandchildren, and always made them her priority. She lived her life with joy, compassion, a sense of adventure and unwavering personal integrity. She saw the good in every person and every situation, and was accepting of and kind to all. She was a close and cherished friend to many, and an incredible source of wisdom, strength and support to everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her great smile; serenity and contagious positive attitude will be deeply missed by all of us. We are all better people because of her.
She is survived by her adoring family: her children, Geena (Dennis) Zaslavsky, Steven (Carrie) Cohen and Kevin (Rakefet) Cohen, her beloved grandchildren, Justin, Brett and Ava Zaslavsky, her sisters and brothers by marriage, Cynthia (Stanley) Wright, Hope (Les) Barnett, as well as her sister, Bobbi (Ed) Henderson. She also leaves a legacy of love and dignity to her nieces and nephews, Mark Wright, Julie Wright Halbert, Devra Wright, Irving Barnett and Ben Barnett.
