VanderVeen, Lucille Eleanor Siegel, age 98 of Tampa died Thursday, June 7, 2007. Mrs VanderVeen was born July 2, 1908 in Chicago, IL to Bessie and Louis Siegel, and she preceded in death by both parents, her sister, Evelyn R. Giesey, and her beloved husband of 38 years Jay N. VanderVeen. She graduated from Chicago Normal College for Teachers and then from Loyola University in Chicago teaching piano to earn money for school. She taught elementary school in Chicago, Texas, Tennessee, and Tampa for over 35 years. In Tampa she taught sixth grade at Mitchell, Grady, Cleveland, Westshore, and Cahoon Elementary schools. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at both County Hospital and St. Joseph's for ten years after her retirement from the Hillsborough County School system. She was a charter resident at University Village Retirement Center and remained active, volunteering in the library. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Helen and Jack Dayan, her grandchildren Deborah Weaver and husband James, Beth Dayan, Joseph Dayan and wife Mellissa, and her great-grandchildren Jacob and Arin Dayan. Funeral services will be held Monday, 10:00 AM at Segal Funeral Home, Beth David Chapel, 3909 Henderson Boulevard, Tampa. Rabbi Marc Sack and Cantor Moshe Friedler will officiate. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to either Rodeph Sholom Synagogue, 2713 Bayshore Blvd., Tampa, FL 33629, or environmental charity of your choice.
