MORRIS, Louis, age 89 of Gainesville died Tuesday, November 03, 2009. "Louie" was born in Atlanta, GA in 1920 and came to Tampa in 1929 where he resided until moving to Gainesville in 2006. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict and was co-owner of Florida Iron and Metal Company which he operated along with his devoted wife, Doris for more than 30 years. He was a beloved member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom where he was affiliated for more than 75 years. Louie received the life designation as "honorary president" and is the only male "honorary sisterhood" member. He married his loving wife Doris on July 6, 1941 in Newark, NJ. The ceremony was conducted by Rabbi Adolph Burger who at the time was serving at Congregation Rodeph Sholom but insisted on traveling to New Jersey. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Peggy & Thomas Higgs of Shippensburg, PA, and son and daughter-in-law, Judge Stan & Chris Morris of Gainesville, four cherished grandchildren, Scott Nelson, Eileen Nelson, Jessica Ires Morris and Whitney Leigh Morris and great grandsons, Douglas and Brandon Nelson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2:00 PM at Congregation Rodeph Sholom, 2713 Bayshore Boulevard, Tampa. Rabbi Marc Sack and Cantor Moshe Friedler will officiate. Interment will follow at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Rodeph Sholom.
