John "Jack" Thomas Jarvis Jr.

John “Jack” Thomas Jarvis Jr, 90, of Ocala, passed away on July 23, 2022. Jack was born in Walpole, Massachusetts to John Thomas Jarvis Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Mullin.

Jack was raised in Gloucester, MA where his love for lobster, the Boston Red Sox, and golf began. As a teenager, he became a caddy at Bass Rocks Golf Club to support his passion for golf. He graduated from Gloucester High School and then enlisted in the Air Force, where he served in the Korean War. He later attended Bentley College in Waltham, MA and earned a degree in accounting.

Jack began his career as an accountant for Northeast Airlines. He then went on to work for General Dynamics, Florida Lime and Dolomite, and finished his career at AAA. He was best known for his strong work ethic and high moral compass. Jack was always willing to help others, offering an encouraging word, raising money for charity, or providing financial advice.

Jack met the love of his life, Ann, on a blind date. They were married in 1961 and spent the early years of their marriage in New England. They traded in the snow for sunshine and moved to Florida in 1974. They settled in Ocala, FL and raised five children. Jack was passionate about his family, golf, and travel. He enjoyed family trips to the beach, Walt Disney World, and University of Florida Gator sporting events. He lived near the Ocala Municipal Golf Course so he could share his passion for golf with his family. He was a member of the Men’s Golf Association and played in competitive golf tournaments. His favorite tournaments included the Walt Disney World Pro-Am, Henry Camp Invitational, and Oswald Seniors. His love of travel and special trips included a trip to Germany and Italy with his wife, Ann, a trip to the Masters with his sons, and a recent Honor Flight of West Central Florida which recognized him for his service in the Korean War. He was an active member of the Forest High Booster Club, where he served as treasurer. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #286 and Blessed Trinity Catholic Church.

Jack was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. He and Ann relocated to Tampa, FL in 2020 to be closer to family. Jack, who never met a stranger, made many new friends at their new residence, the Discovery Village at Westchase.

His faith, wife, and family were the most important things in his life. Jack will forever live in the hearts of his loved ones. May he rest in peace. He is preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Jarvis Sr., mother, Mary Elizabeth Mullin, brother, William James Jarvis, and sister, Jean Jarvis Reed.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Patricia Mahoney, of 61 years; his children: Janet (Rod) Miller of Tampa, FL, James (Linda) of Newnan, GA, Stephen (Vicky) of Cape Canaveral, FL, Elaine (Scott) Pattillo of Spotsylvania, VA, Phyllis of Bellview, FL; grandchildren: Ashley, Caroline, Rod, Alison (Trevor), Jennifer, Stephen (Molly), Meghan, Curtis, Sarah, Mary Grace; and great- grandchildren: Abigail and Olivia.
