John F. Burnie, 88, of Tampa, Florida, passed away November 9, 2008, after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne M., his children, Ellen Burnie, Jane Zeld, James Burnie and his wife Veronica, Martha Angelosante and Meg Burnie, his brother, James W. (Bill) Burnie and his wife Betty, step children, Chip Keener and Sarah Keener, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and 3 neices, along with many close friends. John was born in Canada and moved to Detroit at an early age. A promising hockey career was cut short by WWII. As a Marine, he served his country with honor and distinction, earning medals for his bravery. After the war he graduated from the University of Michigan, and married Kathleen Coesens. He was employed by Citizens Mortgage Corp, NBD Mortgage Co., and Riggs Bank.
Services will be on Friday, November 21st at 11am in the chapel at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi, Michigan. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Heart Association or Juvenile Diabetes Association.
