BREITSTEIN, Joel Martin, age 68 of Tampa died Sunday, March 16, 2014. Mr. Breitstein was born in Staten Island, New York but resided alternately in Baltimore, Maryland and Tampa, Florida before permanently settling in Tampa in 2002. He was an attorney but practiced law for a very short time before pursuing his passion and using his talents in establishing endowments to benefit the Jewish communities where he lived. In central Florida he was the first director of the TOP Foundation (Tampa, Orlando, Pinellas), he was Vice President of the Charitable Gift Planning and Endowment for the Baltimore Jewish Federation and most recently served as Vice President of the Charitable Gift Planning and Endowment for West Palm Beach. He was a member of Congregation Kol Ami in Tampa. Survivors include his beloved wife of 41 years, Penny, son and daughter-in-law, Joshua Adam & Melissa Breitstein of Seattle, WA, and his sisters, Norma Segal Tucker & Susie Buzzard both of Pompano Beach, FL and Carol Shirkey of Tallahassee, FL. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1:00 PM at Congregation Kol Ami, 3919 Moran Road, Tampa. Interment will be held at Gan Shalom Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Kol Ami Endowment Fund.
