Tampa, Florida
Ina May Gruber Mashburn, age 99, passed peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, August 22nd, 2026 in her beloved city of residence, Tampa, Florida.
Ina was born on January 30th, 1927 in Waynesville, Ohio, the second child of large, family. She spoke fondly of her childhood in Ohio, lavishing praise upon her capable and dedicated mother, and often reminisced on happy times growing up with her siblings on a large working farm. As a young woman, she relocated to Tampa, Florida and began building a full life and legacy.
Ina worked alongside her late husband RW Mashburn in his restaurant The Lamas Supper Club. Together they established the Lamas as an iconic Tampa landmark. Their partnership, both in marriage and profession, was one of faith, hard work, mutual respect and an abundance of love. They were serious in their commitment to their combined life, while maintaining a playful and joyful outlook. Ina and RW enjoyed many a grand adventure. They sailed their boat, the Hatari (which Ina named!), from St. Pete Yacht Club to and from Martha’s Vineyard many times.
At home, Ina was an excellent cook and hostess, delighting in having friends and family over for thoughtfully curated gatherings and holidays. From the same place in her heart and a profound desire to provide, Ina served for many years as the President of the Relief Society within her church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The Relief Society is one of the oldest and largest women’s organizations in the world, which is dedicated to charitable service. Through this role, she was consistently admired for her leadership, creativity, compassion and energetic spirit.
In addition to her parents, Ina was proceeded in death by her sister, Norma; brother, Gene; husband, RW Mashburn, and son, Stephen Douglas Mashburn. Devout in her faith, Ina was always comforted in her belief she would eventually be reunited with her loved ones.
She is survived by her sisters Barbara and Joanne, brother Frankie, stepdaughters Rebecca Sauceda and Sheri Christianson, son-in-law, Ken Christianson, and devoted granddaughter, Genevieve Mashburn.
Ina’s presence will be immensely missed by family, friends and her community of South Tampa. A celebration of life will be organized at a future date. The family is grateful to Segal Funeral Home of South Tampa for their services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests the best way to honor Ina’s legacy is by an act of service or a contribution to the charity of your choosing.
