KANTER, Howard, age 88 of Tampa, died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at home. Mr. Kanter was born in Brooklyn, NY and came to Tampa 25 years ago from Boca Raton. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served as a medical tech during WWII. He participated in the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Congregation Kol Ami and for a short time served as the synagogue's executive director. He was a true renaissance man as a poet and artist but mostly will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and cherished grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Elizabeth. Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Richard and Mary Kanter of Tampa, Kenneth & Devra Kanter of NY, and Brad & Eileen Kanter of Tampa, daughter and son-in-law, Gail & Dr. Steven Baker of Tampa, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today, (Tuesday) 11:00 AM at Congregation Kol Ami, 3919 Moran Road, Tampa. Interment will be follow at 1:30 PM with full military honors at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Kol Ami.
