Geraldine "Gerri" (Meerovitz) Lasky, 82, passed away at home with her family by her side on Thursday May 6, 2010. Gerri was born at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa on March 30, 1928. A Tampa native who grew up on Central Ave. near Robles Park, Gerri attended Hillsborough High, graduating in 1946. After a brief stint working for the Tampa Times, she married the love of her life Sam in 1954 and began her tour as a military wife for the next three decades. While Sam served his country deploying around the world, Gerri raised five children as a devoted mother and friend. Gerri moved back to Tampa in 1970 when Sam was stationed at MacDill AFB, where he retired from the service. Gerri resumed her career, joining Maas Brothers as a payroll supervisor, working at the Gandy Blvd. store for almost 20 years. Gerri will be remembered for her loving devotion to her family, her quick wit, and bright smile. Next to her passion for sewing, spending time with her children and grandchildren were Gerri's greatest joys. She was preceded in death by her parents Osias and Sophie Meerovitz, son Leslie Lasky, and brothers Howard and Irvin Meerovitz and is survived by her husband of 56 years, Samuel Lasky; son Steve Lasky and wife Ruthie of Alpharetta, GA; son Lawrence Lasky and wife Kathie of Pensacola, FL; daughter Suzanne Griffith of Tampa; daughter Francine Donoho of Tampa; daughter-in-law Jennifer Lasky of Tampa; 6 grandchildren, Sara and Charles Griffith, Aaren Lasky, Brad Donoho, Jacob Lasky, and Jordan Lasky; and one great-grandson Hunter. Funeral Services in celebration of her life will be conducted by Rabbi Marc Sack at Congregation Rodeph Sholom, 2713 Bayshore Blvd., Tampa on Monday May 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center.
