Eleanor Rothbard

Eleanor (Elly) Rothbard passed away on April 23,2021 at the age of 82 after an up-and-down battle with lymphoma. She was very brave and became totally resigned to her fate when quality of life was no longer possible. Elly is survived by her adoring husband of 63 years, Marty Rothbard, and their loving daughters Janice Obeido and Michelle Blumenthal. Elly was born in the Bronx, N.Y. on August 30, 1938. She graduated from Trenton State College with a degree in elementary education and from Hofstra University with a masters degree in special education. She absolutely loved teaching and the children she taught. She regretted not having written a book based on their delightful comments which she recited each day to her husband when she returned home. Her own handling of the children, without ever criticizing them, was amazing to hear about. She was beloved by -- and loved -- the many friends she made and kept, including those from the years she lived with her family in Switzerland (1979-1982). Memorial contributions in her name may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
