Dr. Martin Edward Schick "Marty", of Tampa Palms, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. He was born January 2, 1951 in El Paso, TX and moved to Tampa in 1997. He was an anesthesiologist.

Dr. Schick was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Albany Medical School. He completed his residency at Walter Reed Medical Center achieving the rank of Major in the US Army. He was the staff anesthesiologist at Brooke Army Center in San Antonio, TX and later opened a private practice in San Antonio. After moving to Tampa he received a Masters degree in Public Heath from the University of South Florida as well as a MBA.

Dr. Schick enjoyed traveling with his family. Highlights include touring China, Scandinavia, Australia and the Galapagos. He liked to say that they visited every continent except Antarctica and that one was on the list. Martin sought adventure. He climbed Kilamanjaro and white water rafted in western rivers. He lived an athletic lifestyle with his family: he biked, swam, jogged and skied.

He is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-nine years, Dr. Marla Hersh Schick and his daughter Mollie Schick as well as his two siblings: Allen G. Schick, PhD of Ellicott City, MD and Susan Case Hausman, PhD of Cleveland, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mollie Schick of El Paso, TX.

Dr. Schick was a longtime member of Congregation Beth Am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Congregation Beth Am, the American Cancer Society or LifePath Hospice of Tampa. A memorial service will be held tonight (Thursday) 7:00p.m. at Congregation Beth Am, 2030 W. Fletcher Avenue. Private interment will be at Gan Shalom Cemetery in Lutz.
