It is with a heavy heart we announce that Dr. David A. Solomon, 78, passed away in the early morning of Thursday, August 26th, surrounded by his wife Bonnie of 53 years, and daughters Kari and Kelly.
Known by many for his professionalism, dedication, brilliance and unique humor, Dr. David Solomon,
served the residents of the Tampa Bay area as a Pulmonologist for over 45 years. Born to Irving and Gwen Solomon in Washington, DC, in 1943, David excelled in school and went on to graduate from The University of Maryland with both an undergraduate degree in biology and a medical degree. Throughout his career, Dr. Solomon was known by his patients and the medical community as a top-tier doctor and one of the foremost experts in pulmonology. Dr. Solomon was Chair of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. Within this role, he worked to ensure that future generation of physicians would be as prepared and knowledgeable as possible. Dr. Solomon was
beloved by the thousands of medical students, medical residents, and Pulmonary/Critical Care fellows that were privileged to have the chance to work with him at Tampa General and USF Clinics. David’s life was one of great purpose and success, as he was not only a wonderful pulmonologist but a
dedicated family man. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of 53 years, his daughters, Kari (Chris) and
Kelly, and his grandchildren, Casey and Chloe. He will also be greatly missed by his siblings, Stephanie
and Karen, his sisters-in-law, Lois, Selma, Robin, and Liz, his brothers-in-law, Jay, David, Gerald, Michael, and Charles. He is also survived by extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and close friends. David will be laid to rest in a private ceremony on August 30, at 11:30 AM
