Donald Saltzman

Donald "Don" Saltzman, age 77 of Tampa died Tuesday, January 4, 2011. Mr. Saltzman was born in Buffalo, New York and came to Tampa in 1980 . He was a graduate of S.U.N.Y Cortland, University of Illinois with a degree in Recreation. For 39 years he had a career in Municipal Parks and Recreation in New York, Ohio and Florida where he retired in 1995 as the Director of Recreation for the City of Tampa. He was a member of the National Recreation and Park Association and active in Boy Scouts of America, Rotary International, Tampa Sports Club and Congregation Schaarai Zedek. He served as a volunteer for the Ronald MacDonald House, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, the Visitors Bureau and Friends of Tampa Recreation Inc. Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Arlene "Sis", sons, Barry and wife, Dr. Karen Saltzman of Cleveland, OH, Randy and wife Dr. Elizabeth Saltzman of Rochester, NY, and Kenneth and his partner, Duane Prill of Bradford,NY and grandchildren,Ashley, Lindsey, Ryan, Gabrielle, Alyssa and Leila Saltzman. A memorial service will be held Thursday January 6, 2011 3:30 PM at Congregation Schaarai Zedek, 3303 West Swann Avenue, Tampa. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald MacDonald House of Tampa, 35 Columbia Drive, Tampa, FL 33606 or to the charity of ones choice.
