Conrad Paul Weller, 86, of Tampa, passed away on March 15, 2024 of esophageal cancer.
Conrad was born in Maximo Paz, Argentina to Julio and Ana Weller, April 14, 1937. In 1961 and 1964 respectively, he received his M.D and DMSc degrees from The National University of the Littoral, Argentina. He married in 1965 and together moved with his wife, Zulema, to Israel in 1967, where he held a Research Fellowship at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He served in the Israel Defense Forces as a medical officer 1971-1973. It was also in Jerusalem that his two children were born, Amiel Steve and Alexandra. He later relocated with his family to the U.S. and completed a residency at Rollman Psychiatric Institute, eventually settling in Tampa where he had a private practice in psychiatry from 1978-2011. He specialized in brain and cord injuries, and later took boards in geriatric and forensic psychiatry. He became a naturalized citizen, along with his wife and children, in 1981. Conrad was dedicated to his work, and after closing his private practice, took a position as medical director of a local clinic until his retirement in 2019.
Conrad was a voracious reader, had a deep love of learning, and pursued many hobbies and interests over his life. Perhaps most notably, he was fluent in several languages, played Classical guitar, and had spent the last several years learning Ballroom Dance. He was a world traveler and particularly loved to visit places where he could practice languages he had learned. Conrad was a lifelong student of the Torah and the Talmud, and a member of Congregation Schaarai Zedek. He was gentle and compassionate, and beloved by all for his easy-going, courteous, quirky, and amiable personality. He had a peculiar dry humor.
Conrad is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Zulema Weller, and his son A. Steve Weller; and is survived by his daughter, Alexandra Weller. A graveside service, in the Reform Jewish tradition will be conducted at 2pm, Thursday March 21, 2024 at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in his home that afternoon from 4-6pm.
