HOLLANDER, Bette June, age 89 of Tampa died Thursday, March 24, 2016. Bette held a Master of Social Work degree and worked as a psychiatric school social worker in the Washington, D.C. public school system for almost 30 years. She dedicated her career to being an advocate for children, and worked weekends for Montgomery County, Maryland's Child Protective Services. Bette moved from her native Washington, D.C. to Tampa in 1991 to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, following which she worked for two more years as a school social worker for the Hillsborough County School System. Following her retirement, she volunteered for various civic and charitable organizations. She loved meeting new people and especially enjoyed her time volunteering at the Tampa Visitors and Convention Bureau. Bette is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth & John Diamandis, and cherished grandchildren, Theo & Zachary. Private services will be held. In recognition of Bette's love of animals, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
