"Bunny", age 89 of Tampa, died on August 28, 2012. Mrs. August came to Tampa in 2007 from her native New York, where she was a graduate of NYU and later taught home economics in the East Meadow School district for over 23 years. Bunny was an advocate for the developement of "life skills" for children and promoted cooking, home finances and other valuable lessons for high school students at a time when it was uncommon for boys to be included in home economic classes. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and used her talents to talk to high school students about the importance of registering to vote. Survivors include her beloved husband of 67 years, Jerry, daughters and sons-in-law, Karen & Mitch Bentley of Tampa and Janet & John Roman of Avon, CT, brother, Bruce Zimmerman of Tampa, grandchildren, Scott Bentley (Erin), Jill Saint (Chris), Steven Bentley (Elizabeth), Michael Roman (Courtney) & Mark Roman and great-grandchildren, Ella, Julia, Asher & Caroline along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Private graveside services will be held. The family will recieve friends at the Bentley residence, Thursday, August 30, 2012 beginning at 4:30pm with a Shiva service at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Foundation or to organizations that promote the education and enhancement of children's lives.
