Audrey Shine

Shine, Audrey Maas, born in Tampa, Florida on March 11, 1919. Audrey attended Gorrie Elementary School, Wilson Junior High School, The Academy of Holy Names, and Marjorie Webster College in Washington DC. During World War II Audrey was a member of the Red Cross Motor Corps, driving ambulances and 2 ton trucks at Al Lange Field (This accounted for her infamous driving techniques!) In 1945 Audrey married the love of her life Mark Shine. They celebrated 65 wonderful years together raising a family and traveling all over the world. In 1959 Audrey and Mark opened Kirbys Men’s Wear. Working side by side they created a family business that is still open to this day. Audrey retired at the age of 98. Her family was one of the founders of Congregation Schaarai Zedek. She was president of the Temple’s Sisterhood and was honored as the namesake and first recipient of the Schaarai Zedek Sisterhood Audrey Maas Shine Leadership Award named for her mentorship and dedication over the decades. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Mark Shine. Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen Shine (Susan)and Martin Shine, daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Shine Hicks (Buck) cherished grandchildren Michael Shine, Taylor Shine Jones (Wesley), David Hicks (Pam), Allison Hicks McCandless (David), and great grandchildren, Blakely & Annabelle Jones and Ruby & Lily McCandless. Special thanks to Audrey’s caregivers, Zondria Williams, Rosa Sorto, Marie Fernandez, Dina Rollin and Lifepath Hospice Burgundy Team for their love and care. Private funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 19, at 11:30 AM which you can watch via live stream . In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to any charity of your choice at Congregation Schaarai Zedek.
