Anita C. Scharf, age 82 of Tampa died Thursday. September 2, 2010. Mrs. Scharf was born in New York and came to Tampa in 1955. Survivors include her beloved husband of 58 years, Les, sons and daughters-in- law, Mark & Marsha Scharf of Worcester, MA, David Scharf and Alan & Kelly Scharf all of Tampa and grandchildren, Benjamin, Julie, Abram and Maren. She was a graduate of the University of Tampa and was the editorial assistant with the Tampa Review. She was a member of Congregation Schaarai Zedek, Past President of the Tampa Audobon Society and past president of the Sunnydale Acres Garden Club in addition to other organizations. Anita was an ardent environmentalist who worked to preserve Tampa Bay and the surrounding wetlands. She was a birder and traveled to Alaska, Europe, Asia, Central America and Australia where she enjoyed snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. She loved music, art, reading, writing and gardening; and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Graveside services will be held Sunday, 9:30 AM at Schaarai Zedek Cemetery. A memorial service will be held following burial, 11:00 AM at Congregation Schaarai Zedek, 3303 West Swann Avenue, Tampa. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of ones choice.
