NELSON, Alice K. Nelson age 78 of Tampa died Sunday, May 16, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Nelson was born in New York City to Irving and Sonia Katz. She came to Tampa from Baltimore, MD over 50 years ago. Alice received her BA from City College of New York, furthered her education earning her MSW from the University of Georgia and eventually achieving her law degree from JD Stetson University of College of Law. Alice had an esteemed law practice much of which was dedicated to those most vulnerable and received numerous awards and accolades including being Executive Editor Law Review, American Constitution Society The George Seldon Public Interest Award 2019, COPAA The Diane Lipton Award for Outstanding Educational Advocacy on Behalf of Children with Disabilities 2021 and Fulbright Senior Scholar, Ankara University School of Law. She was a past member of Congregation Rodeph Sholom and currently was a dedicated member of Congregation Kol Ami and served on their ritual and renewal. She was preceded in death by her devoted brother, Joel Katz. Survivors include her beloved husband of 57 years, Carnot Nelson, loving sons and daughter-in-law, Seth Nelson and Jeremy & Michal Nelson and cherished grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua, Isaac and Kai. Funeral services were held with interment at Gan Shalom Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to:
