Aaron Maurice Gerb (aka Sonny & Maury), 97, passed away on Tuesday, August 6. Maury was the son of Faye and James Gerb, husband to Annette, brother to Shirley, father to his two children, James (Donna) and Sari, grandfather to Samuel (Ashley) and Elianna, and great-grandfather to Carter and Cooper. Maury was predeceased by his wife, Annette and his daughter, Sari.
While he was born in Paterson, NJ, Maury always referred to himself as a “Native of Brooklyn” (Williamsburg and Flatbush). He was a graduate of Eastern High School in Brooklyn, NY that served during World War II as an Army Medic in military bases throughout the United States. He returned to attend New York University under the G.I. Bill, graduating with a Bachelor of Science from NYU’s School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance. Maury used his degree as the Owner and President of Peronti Trucking Company in Brooklyn, NY for 30 years.
He met his future wife, Annette Gechter (aka “Precious”) of Greenpoint, NY on a blind date. Maury then married Annette in 1954 and moved to Lynbrook, NY with son James and daughter Sari. Both Maury and Annette were very active in their hometown synagogue - Temple Beth David - in Lynbrook. Maury acted as its President and Annette as its Bookkeeper. He was also honored with the Congregation's Man of the Year in 1995.
He later retired and moved with Annette to Oxford Greens in Oxford, CT to be near his son, James of Trumbull, CT, and daughter Sari of Oxford, CT. Maury was married to Annette for 49 years until her death in November 2013. After the untimely death of his daughter, Sari, in October 2022, he moved to Tampa, FL to be near family.
Maury was deeply devoted to his entire family. A lifelong loyal friend to many with a great sense of humor and an eternal optimist. Nothing was more important to him than his family.
